AProblem

Three teams, three interfaces

Web, iOS and Android each had a different team working on development, so no two apps were consistent with each other. None of them matched the newly updated marketing style guide.

The goals:

  • Improve acquisition and retention. A UI that attracts new customers and keeps existing ones.
  • Achieve brand unity with the new marcom style guide.
  • Achieve consistency across devices so every developer gets the right assets.

BApproach

Make the right thing the easy thing

My team was tasked with building a Figma component library the developers would pull assets from. A style guide plus components meant three platform teams were finally building from one source.

We took the opportunity to move the product toward WCAG compliance at the same time: alt descriptions, clearer use of color, and titles on the areas that needed them.

DImpact

A foundation the product team kept building on

The updated app received excellent reviews from users, who highlighted its reliability and ease of use. Fishbowl saw increased customer loyalty and a growing user base with record sales.

“A complete redesign of an outdated UI and the creation of hundreds of new features.”
